Biographical Sketch

Jinshan Tang received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Heilong Jiang University and the Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications and Electronic System from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, P.R. China, respectively. He has a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Xiantan Normal University. From September 1998 to June 2000, he worked as a researcher in ATR Media Integration and Communications Research Laboratories, Kyoto, Japan, where he developed the basic theory on smart computer. In June 2000, he went to Harvard to work on image enhancement technology for low-vision patients and stereo display technology for flight simulation. From 2001-2004, Dr. Tang worked as a research scientist in the VIVA group at the University of Virginia. Dr. Tang received an achievement award in ICAI 2001 and a post-doctor Fellowship from Harvard. Dr. Jinshan Tang is member of IEEE, IEEE Communications society, IEEE Circuits and System society.

Research Interests

Dr. Tang's areas of research included smart computer, content based image retrieval, cell detection and tracking, face detection and recognition, Mutliscale contrast enhancement, image enhancement for low-vision, image compression, non-verbal information processing and communication, wavelet, Teleconference and tele-education system. His additionally was interested in content based image retrieval, cell detection and tracking in-vivo.
